But what's happened under Pres Bush is the possible downgrade of the US as a superpower. Under Pres Bush's leadership we've seen: * The decline of the US military. Sure, we can still bomb the crap out of people. But nobody is afraid of us like they used to be. Mr. Bush has shown the world how easy it is to sap the US of time, money, and soldiers by bogging us down in a conflict. * The decline of the US economy. Capitalism itself, but certainly American leadership in the economy, is possibly not recoverable. It won't be long before the dollar is revoked as the global currency standard. * The decline of US institutions The church, sports figures, schools, infrastructure (bridges, etc). All have eroded and there is a lack of trust for any of them. So Mike has said "we'll survive". Probably, although for the first time in my life I can see a reasonable argument that says we don't - or not as we are today. Which brings me to the question at hand: what do you want out of this election? I don't just want to survive. I want to thrive. This country has spent 8 years dying on the vine and I don't want to barely limp through another 4 or 8. In short, people are sick of barely surviving while their institutions die around them. McCain represents old baby-boomer 20th century thinking and politics. He's yesterday. He's decline. He can't even lead his campaign right now. It's time to elect someone who can remove all of those people: The clintons, the bushs, et al Someone outside enough to do it and inside enough to know how. That's Obama. Will he be able to do it? I don't know.
