;^) I once got into an argument at a job interview (I didn't really care if I got the job)... the interviewer said "I'm looking for somebody that knows ColdFusion by heart, somebody that doesn't need a reference manual!" I told him that wasn't me. He shook his head and said "I was told that you were very good" (the interview was actually set up by Mike Nimer, one of the CF Engineering team at the time). I replied "I am - but I don't usually memorize things that I can easily reference". He said he preferred that his people code in a plain-text editor and things went downhill from there. ;^) I still don't memorize things usually... when I work on CF I've got a dog-earred copy of the CF Reference guide at constant hand. I've got an even more dog-eared copy of "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide" and, depending on what I'm doing, several others are handy. I've got MSDN Library and gotapi.com hotlinked. I CAN code in Notepad... but I loves me some function insight. ;^) As long as you understand what you're doing (as long as the tool isn't a crutch) then tools can be great. Everybody learns and works differently - but in my opinion a boss should care about output, not about the process one uses to generate it.
