> that's the only real downside to an Obama victory this morning.....we can't > hold all those pathetic celebrities to their vow to leave the country should > McCain win :)
Why not? Because we didn't do the same when Bush won? I'll speak up first - and this is a conversation I've had with a couple of folks in the office already - I'm not completely surprised. Here are the results of the election as I see them: We are still a nation that is divided. 52% to 46% based on popular vote is not a landslide in my book. This is even more apparent when you look at the Senate and House - in both cases it's 56% to 44%. To set the "standard" where I would say we're not divided, those numbers would have to be no more than 40% for the minority. When you look at the ballot initiatives in the states we can see this as well: - Arizona, California and Florida all voted in measures to ban gay marriage. - Arkansas passed a measure banning same-sex couples from adopting. - Washington voted to allow doctor assisted suicide. - Abortion limits measures failed in every state they were attempted in. As a Conservative, I understand what has happened and why. I also know that O has 2 solid years to deliver on the Lion's share of the changes he's promised before there is another election that would have the possibility of changing power. I am making note of "how things are" right now, where our nation is on a number of different benchmarks. That way I'll have something to look back on other than vague memories when asked, "are you better off now than you were xx years ago?" I will say this, I'm grateful that so far there have only been gracious winners. I'm dedicated to gracefully acknowledging a loss. Our 44th President has been elected and now we have to see where he and his party will push things. In the meantime, I'm not going to back down on where I believe, nor am I going to stop talking about how I think things should be. Again, congratulations.
