I he touches on one important reason that this issue is being won by the right: those against gay marriage are absolutely positive that it's wrong. The reasons don't matter - they're sure. However most people (at least most straight people) for gay marriage simply can't understand the arguments against. It's inconceivable to us why this would matter to anybody else. It's considered such a ridiculous position that we simply don't take it seriously. Why does it matter to the right? Why should it? How does it affect them? It doesn't. But they're damn passionate about it and we (many of us ay at any rate) are just so befuddled that it's even a fucking question that they're winning.
