The problem with this is that those in power get to define who is a
terrorist, and they aren't beyond using this kind of unlimited
wiretapping to go after their enemies.    One of the reasons that some
of us protested the warrentless wiretapping so vehemently is that we
remember how badly it can be misused.  Google Nixon and wiretapping.

This is a tough ethical problem for me.  Personally, I'd like to do
whatever was necessary to prevent another attack, but the thought of
the government having the power to do that scares me.  Frankly, I will
admit to be more afraid of losing my freedoms to an unrestrained
government than I do to foreign terrorists.   Without due process, we
have no way of knowing who the government is silencing, or why.
