The biggest cause of bankruptcy is job loss. The biggest cause of job
loss is health problems. Job loss + health problems = huge financial
problems.

Personal anecdote: This time last year I had a six figure salary and
an investment portfolio in excess of seven figures. I lost my job in
June. My family business failed in September.

ALL of my money went to pay medical bills. I have none left, and I
need three more surgeries. I've been in so much pain this week that I
wanna do is curl up with my heating pad and cry.

Today I spent my last three dollars on gas for my car and my boyfriend
is feeding me. If I had a mortgage or credit card debt, which
thankfully I don't, I would have no choice but to file for
bankruptcy. I would be more than happy to take some help from the
federal government, but I don't qualify because I have assets - real
estate for which I have no buyers, but which prevents me from being
eligible for any public assistance.

It's easy to find fault with the government attempts to turn the
economy around when you're flush with money. It looks real different
from where I'm sitting, although I will admit I wish they would focus
more on creating jobs, cause I really wanna work.
