I still don't see why the debate is whether Gitmo is a good or bad idea or whether torture tickles or not. In my eyes the point should be this:
Give em a trial. Prove they were terrorists or don't. If they are convicted, put them in general population and let it sort itself out. If they are acquitted cut em loose and move on to the next one.
