This was not a simple terrorist attack, it was a coordinated strike by fanatics that was meant to be the opening salvo of a war of jihad against our country. Bin Laden never expected us to fight back, he thought the US was a "paper tiger", remember? But again, all this is beside the point. There is no money for the welfare state in 2040 and beyond, sooner perhaps. There never was, Congress has been pointedly ignoring the problem for decades.
