But then why did you support Bush's push for executive powers?

My argument all along has been that congress makes law (driven
locally) and the President executes it.

Bush spent 8 years trying to turn that on its head, don't you remember?

Remember all the signing statements, the Gonzo statements about the
imperial President, the Cheney claim of the all powerful executive,
the obstruction of congressional inquiries, the secret meeting and
documents, and on and on.

If you believe what you say, you spent the last 8 years dragging your
agenda backwards 30 years.

Are you only realizing this now that a new party is in office?
