Amsterdam is beautiful this time of year, and the public squares and cafes are full of people hanging out crowd-watching. Like many European cities, it empties out in August, so if you don't like crowds, wait until then. I like the fact that it is flat and a great walking city. There are lots of other cool cultural things to see besides the Anne Frank museum, and it is really easy to get outside the city via train and see the countryside, which is every bit as pastoral and picturesque as you would imagine. It can be cheap if you stay in a basic hotel, too. I like the little towns and villages outside The Hague- super-cute.
