I still don't get this.  Being married or not, if you have a kid and
you are the mother or father, you have parental rights.  Yeah it sucks
if your parents hate each other's guts, but that really has nothing to
do with marriage.  IF they were never married and "break up" it's the
same thing.

I guess I am unclear on what parental rights you give up by being unmarried.
