His father was stationed at Coco Solo Naval Air Station when John was born,
so yes, it was a military installation...it may have even been considered US
property as the Canal Zone was controlled by the US...but I am not sure how,
other than his father being in the military, that would play into
citizenship other than I believe that would still be treated as US soil.
That was long before Jimmy Carter made the treaty with General Torrijtos
(sp?) which gave the Canal back to Panama...prior to that it was totally in
US control.
