Sam, you are taking a lot of what I have said out of context. I am going to clarify it for you (again):
I feel that homosexual couples should be granted the same rights as a heterosexual couple - as a matter of fact, I think they should just be called 'couples'. This includes, legally being a 'spouse' and all the benefits that affords - including health insurance, inheritance, sharing of property, etc. These rights, in my opinion, also include being able to use the same legal terms to define the relationship. Traditionally, when you take a spouse, you are considered 'married'. For most people, this involves a religious ceremony, but it does not have to. When you get married in a church, for example, you actually are doing 2 things - 1. You are entering into a 'civil contract' with the other person and 2. you are celebrating a religious ceremony. A heterosexual couple has the option to get 'married' by a 'justice of the peace', etc without having a religious ceremony. A homosexual couple does not. That right there is the discrimination. I personally do not care if the government changes the word they use to describe this relationship, or if they simply allow homosexual couples to get 'married' in the civil sense. What I do care about is that every consenting couple who wants to enter into this kind of relationship be afforded the same rights. Its funny you talk about fighting over a word, yet, a lot of conservatives I have spoken to are against changing the legal term from 'marriage' to something else, and using that term for ALL COUPLES. It's apparently supposed to be good enough for homosexual couples to be in a 'civil union' but its not OK for heterosexual couples. Again, there is the discrimination. -- Scott Stroz --------------- You can make things happen, you can watch things happen or you can wonder what the f*&k happened. - Cpt.
