My step-paternal grandparents both lived until their 90's and up until they
were sharp as a knife and very active...travelling all over the world.  They
didn't go downhill until right before they died (I mean like days before
they died)  My maternal grandma OTOH was not the same for about a year or so
before she died due to a stroke...that would suck.

I lived with my great grandparents and they had fun in their 90s. My
grandfather is 87, lives alone, drives, works out at the gym 6 days a
week. He's got a fine life.
