/me dies a little inside.

I've seen some terrible treatment of the elderly, but that takes the
cake.

On a somewhat related note: I once had a call where an elderly woman
was being cared for by her granddaughter and her husband, Niether
cared for or about her very much. They went away for a long weekend in
Atlantic City (the patient was bed ridden) and when they got home,
they found out their 2 ferrets had gotten out of their cage - because,
like the grandmother, they had not left the ferrets and food - and
they 'mauled' the elderly woman. At the hospital, they counted over
2,000 sets if little bite marks.

Sadly, they faced bigger fines from leaving the ferrets unattended
than the grandmother.
