>The 360 has been the best selling console for the last 4 months.
It gained enormous market share in the face of the incumbents,
Nintendo and Sony and did so by pulling people from those platforms.

Only Halo saved it. The number of people who bought a 360 just to play
Halo is just scary.

>Previously, Microsoft never had any experience in the console
business, or even much in the Game development business.

Erm....original Xbox maybe? Or perhaps the dozens of games they released
even before that (Freelancer has long been a favorite of mine, as well
as several of the MechWarrior games produced by Microsoft). Seriously,
they've been in the game business almost as long as, or perhaps even
longer than, Sony.

>I would say for them, the 360 was a great success and can be counted
as one of their few forays into a new market.

Again, it's far from a new market for them. The 360 may be on the top
right now, but it spent years at the bottom. Heck, for the first couple
years it was on the market it was being outsold by the PS2.

>Yes, the 360 had issues (fixed now with the latest 360 slim and before
that with the newer model of 360 where the circuit boards were
changed) but those issues were not greater than the benefits that
consumers saw in the platform.

I'll give you that one, but I still think a glitch as bad as the red
ring of death disqualifies them from being able to say they got it
right, certainly on the first 360s.

>Xbox Live is the best multiplayer and online ecosystem of all the
consoles.

That's debatable. The fact that PC gamers and console gamers can access
the same playspace is cool, but the fact that you have to pay for Xbox
Live is kinda sucky. Then again I don't like online play anyhow. It
seems to bring out the @$$hole is way too many people. For that matter
the only thing I ever play on my PS3 any more is movies so maybe I'm not
the one to be critiquing online gaming.

>If Windows 7 can achieve the same results, they will certainly have a
winner on their hands.

If Windows 7 Mobile repeats the performance of the 360 we can expect it
to be a major contender in 3-5 years and in the short term we can expect
it to have major problems. I don't see that happening unless they port
Halo to phones. It's either gonna fly or fall on its own merits. No
killer app is going to save a phone the way it can a game console.
