That is exactly what happened to me.....only it happened 3 times. The first
time i thought i was having a heart attack.

They operated on me after the second one, because they said after it happens
a second time, it'll probably keep happening. They went in and removed the
sac around my lung, then roughed up a muscle above my lung along with the
top of my lung, with the idea that hte two would "scar" together.
And...that's what holds my left lung up!

The third collapse was my other lung, but it healed itself and I haven't
heard from it since.

Extreme low pressure systems still cause my chest to hurt on the left side,
sometimes rather acutely. For quite a few years after the operation i'd
become a fairly good predictor for severe thunderstorms, but that has waned
recently.
