I like Google + and have mostly switched to it from Facebook. I'm only keeping the Facebook account because I have cousins and acquaintances that I like to hear from but would probably never email directly. I haven't seen my Scottish cousins in years, but I enjoy knowing stuff like the son who's on a professional soccer team.
That said, the new contacts in chat annoy me too. There are quite a few people I follow on Google + because I find them interesting (Thomas Hawk for example) but with whom I would never chat in a million years. Just don't know them well enough to interrupt them, and have no reason to do so.
