The behavior of the Chicago police during the Democratic Convention in 1968 cost Hubert Humphrey the election, and gave us 5 1/2 years of Nixon.
I don't think either candidate wants visible protests at their party's convention, but might be wishing for a violent mess for the opposition. I don't expect those who have been active on either side to sit quietly this summer. I also don't expect the media to cover the protests in any balanced way. They never have before.
