None of the provisions except the free birth control and increasing the coverage age for dependents to 26 kick in until 2014 so anything the insurance companies are charging now is by their own choice and not mandated by Obamacare. So yes, it's BS.
As for Obama's apparently contradictory statements below, it is entirely possible to have universal care without a mandate, it would simply require single payer - which was taken off the table in negotiations to get the bill passed. Remember, the President can only suggest. Congress actually makes the laws. So why aren't we hearing about those who actually wrote the bill?
