Choosing a hardware device is a fairly personal decision. That's a whole
conversation beyond organization. However, three things come to mind:

1) Before buying a device, if you haven't already read it, get the book
called "Getting Things Done" (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0142000280). This
book lists some great ways of organizing your day and organizing your
tasks, and none of it necessarily requires any devices at all.
I would start there.

2) If you do choose to go with an Apple device, the program called "Things"
is the best app I've found for managing to-dos. It syncs to the cloud and
across all devices, including my MacBook. This advice is probably of
limited value unless you are planning on heading a Mac-heavy direction.

3) You are probably already doing this, but make sure you are syncing (at
the very least) your calendar across all devices you own. I use Google's
Calendar to do this. It works just like exchange on the server so it's
pretty easy to plug it into just about any device out there. A calendar
alone can be a great reminder and organization tool since you can put
certain to-dos right on it on the day you need to do it. Calendars don't
just have to be for appointments!

That's all I have for now.

Feel better!
