And don't you just love all professional Republican horn blowers out there who keep saying, "But...Lincoln! We freed you people! Democrats are the Klan! You're being stupid!".
I understand that they don't want to be seen as the party of old white dudes who don't like brown people. But telling people that they are essentially being stupid for supporting another party and pointing to something 150 years ago as their best argument is really kind of a crappy way to go about it. Brown folks aren't stupid, they can see what you are actually doing right here and now and will give or remove their supported based on that.
