The USB stick requires software to run and connect (authentication, etc)
and I don't know of any router that will handle that part.  If you're
wanting to connect multiple devices, the hotspot is the only way I can
think of to go without getting a computer involved...

That outlines sharing a connection using a computer as the interface.  You
could push *that* out to the router to add WiFi.  The downside of this is
that the computer would have to be on at all times when people wanted to
get online.

Extraneous functionality or not, the hotspot is the easiest way to go.
