Hi Andrew, to be honest, no we haven't considered that. The project
we have has some pretty specific requirements which include a Flash
component for at least one of the endpoints, and the other endpoints
will most likely have Flash available for use as well, so we're using
that as the starting point.

Since P2P between the endpoints isn't possible for this application
we're looking at Red5 or similar for the server side since it already
supports what we're trying to do. My understanding of Node.js is that
it's a server-side JavaScript engine, so if there is already a full-on
open source media server written on top of it that can handle multiple
media streams and save the chats from both ends of a session in a
usable video format then we would be open to considering it for that
part of the project.

We are open to alternatives if a stack can be demonstrated that meets
our needs (we have several people pitching us on WebRTM solutions for
this project as well but it doesn't look mature enough at this point).
At the moment Flash is the only mature browser-based solution I've
seen which can handle our needs for the endpoints, even though it is
an older technology on its way out. It's not the cool kid on the
block, but, like ColdFusion, it's mature and proven for these types of
applications so that's the direction we're leaning until someone
demonstrates something better with widespread support.

Having said that, we are still looking for a decent Flash developer,
so if anyone knows anyone in the Flash space looking for work,
preferably with experience working with video chat projects, please
send them my way. We are open to alternatives as well if something
better that meets our needs can be proposed. Thanks!
