Kevin;

You know, I really want to have an intense back and forth with you over
this
subject. Maybe, if things were different, we could even engage in some
low
level name calling.

Sadly, my flamethrower has no napalm right now and I'm still exhausted
from
a few nights of having no AC in the apartment. Plus my daughter is sick,
which is pulling me away from just about everything right now.

Please excuse me for not whipping out the big stick of social justice
and
enlightenment. For today, you can hold whatever beliefs you wish :^)

I see your point. Anyone who asks me my opinion of homosexuality will
always get both sides, as this debates has evidenced. While I think it
is not natural, I would never encourage violence. I have interacted
with gay people in the past. My hair stylist when I was in High school
was gay and my wife and I led the youth group at a gay and trans
gendered church, believe it or not, long story, good and bad experiences
with it, which helped to shape my views as they are now. My views on
homosexuality have changed over time to where they are now.

Kevin;

I see your point and respect your right to hold it.

I know many people who hold the same view, and would probably agree with
what you said.

One is always forced to wonder about other's commitment to their point
of
view. Were one to read a comment like

"Not if it is a biological defect, then it is not natural."

it could be interpreted as meaning that the comment's author subscribes
to
the belief homosexuality is completely unnatural and perhaps even
dangerous.
No one wants to be a defect, after all, and certainly no one wants to be
surrounded by defective creations, right? Possibly they could be
contagious!

Our language reveals more than we want it to sometimes. While no right
minded, reasonable person openly encourages violence against other
groups,
sometimes we do something much worse by thoughtlessly characterizing
something we really know *nothing* about in strange, unnatural and
somewhat
exclusionary terms. Ideas have a way of spreading, growing, and becoming
much different than what we intended for them to be.

One might be tempted to look at this accident of intentions as the root
of
violence, and question the legitimacy of another's claim that they
subscribe
to a 'what you do in your home is your business' belief.

Mike,

While I may not agree with the gay lifestyle, I do agree that people
should not act out violently against gay people. That to me is wrong.
I would never admonish someone for being gay. I wouldn't say mean or
hurtful things to them nor would I try to make their life miserable.
Like I said, what you do in the privacy of your own home is your
business, just don't ask me to agree with what you do or support you in
it.

Kevin

The number of articles being cited should not be germane to the
argument,
the source of the articles and the qualifications of the writers should.

There is a movement amongst geneticists, neuropathologists, and other
scientists concerned with the 'mechanics' of thought to treat
homosexuality
as a human condition brought on by a number of biological factors, and
there
is a large body of work concerned with the relationship between in vitro
hormonal levels and later homosexuality. A site with a number of good
articles is Nature www.nature.com, which has covered the topic in depth
over
the past few years.

The other side of argument is that this is a behavior people choose to
engage in and is predominently a 'learned' activity. The proponents of
this
argument, in my experience, tend to be religious leaders, politicians,
guidance counsellors, and the like. The 700 club's Web site has an
equally
broad range of articles on the subject.

Neither camp has been able to prove their point exhaustively, and
therefore
the truth remains open to interpretation. Choose your King.

I, for one, always go back to the book of John in these arguments, and
to
Jesus' admonition of the mob about to stone the adultress: 'Let he who
is
without sin cast the first stone'. It is not my business who is gay, nor
do
I care about the roots of homosexuality. The problem is, being
homosexual is
so laden with guilt and societal displeasure that people who should know
better often act out against homosexuals unjustly. I need not point out
the
multitude of examples of violence against homosexuals to make my point.
Injustice is something I find threatening, and, if someone wants to
march to
promote their way of life so maybe others will understand and stop
beating
their heads in, I cannot oppose their desire to do so.

And I am sure, as I will do at lunch, that I can find just as many
articles proving yours wrong. We'll see. I'll take a look at what you
sent. Examine it and let you know what I think.

Enough supporting evidence or do you want more? I changed the search
terms
somewhat to eliminate AIDS and HIV, and eliminate letters to the editor
and
reviews. The search terms were also changed to be somewhat more
inclusive.
684 article were found.

So what more evidence do you want?

I think that I demonstrated my point. The evidence supporting the
biological
basis of male homosexuality is overwheming on the genetic studies alone.
The
quality of the research is adequate.

Now as you were saying.
