Probably don't teach that Republicans pushed hard for the CRA of '64 than demos too.
The Republican Party was not so badly split as the Democrats by the civil rights issue. Only one Republican senator participated in the filibuster against the bill. In fact, since 1933, Republicans had a more positive record on civil rights than the Democrats. In the twenty-six major civil rights votes since 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 % of the votes. By contrast, the Republican majority favored civil rights in over 96 % of the votes. -----Original Message----- From: Maureen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 09, 2002 10:11 AM To: CF-Community Subject: Re: Super Duper Controversial post....heheh At 09:55 AM 7/9/02, Hatton wrote: >The Civil Rights movement was originally designed to try and break down >the barriers that kept blacks out of board rooms and country clubs. Do you really believe this? The Civil Rights movement was about voting rights, the right not be lynched, equal educational facilities, and a long list of other extremely important issues that had little or nothing to do with board rooms or country clubs. What do they teach these days in school? It sure must not be history. ______________________________________________________________________ This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com.
