Actually, human instinct SHOULD push people the opposite way in most light/dark continuums. Human instinct isn't about beauty - it's about survival. If I'm an African, my chances of dying of skin cancer are significantly greater if I'm light skinned. In fact, the albino Africans that I encountered in Nigeria were said to be "walking dead" because everyone knew they'd die young.
Conceptions of beauty are highly cultural, but if you observe less "westernized" societies, you'll find that their conceptions of beauty have much more to do with the continuation of the species than anything else. To use Nigeria as an example again, when I was there, I was significantly heavier than I am now. In America, I was looked at as unattractive. However, there, I was seen as amazingly beautiful, and everyone wondered how someone so young could have such a healthy body. What they were concerned with was my ability to bear children, and if you're skinny, they highly doubt you're going to be successful in that regard. So: heavier = more likely to continue the species = beautiful. -d Deanna Schneider Interactive Media Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] ______________________________________________________________________ Your ad could be here.
