You are correct of course. Oil is not being used as a reason officially, but that doesn't mean that is has nothing to do with it. Oil rights are being used as a bargaining chip by the US, in an attempt to encourage other European countries to back action. The French are pretty unhappy about this by all accounts, as they have a deal in place with Iraq already, although obviously the sanctions prevent them for enjoying it.
It was the same in Afghanistan, in my opinion. Ultimately, though, wars are never fought for moral reasons.
