I have a longish reply that I wrote, but for some reason my mail server won't let it
out. I tried to post it through the web interface but it didn't seem to take either,
any suggestions?

my issue isn't with the leaders of industry, tim -- the process and
environment is already there to be used by whosoever can come along and
make use of it. my issue is with the people who promote the status quo and
capitalism as a "natural order" or "the noblest" way as ayn rand does. i
don't know what "feel good" socialist drivel you're referring to. do you
think noam chomsky is "feel good" drivel? or are you referring to the
world of fiction ala ayn rand?

the fact is that corporate capitalism is a dead end and ayn rand just
lauded it. i'm not saying that the whole concept of a meritocracy is bad,
but on what merit does capitalism reward already heavily concentrated
power? the kind of capitalism actively promoted and envisioned by ayn rand
results in little less than eventual economic totalitarianism, which i find
ironic, considering that totalitarianism was what she claimed to be
against.

you speak of free markets -- i love that term. the problem
with concentrated capital in the real world is that it buys the power to
ensure that the political sphere subsidizes monopoly interests. it warps
things to it's own end. i'm not saying that communist totalitarianism is
any better-- in fact i think in many ways it's much worse -- but then
again, you can't give USSR as an example of what communism is any more than
you can give america as an example for what a democracy is.

hunkering down in anticipation of the impending flame wars... ;P

ack- time to get back to work.
