It was silent. Normaly, if I say hello and don't get an immediate response, I figure it's a computer dialing and hang up. Since it was so late, though, I thought it was something important so I stayed on the line. No one ever answered. What I'm figuring is that it's one of those new telemarketer things that's looking for an answering machine instead of a live person. If the machine answers, it leaves a message. If a person answers, it hangs up. Damned annoying if you ask me.
Supposedly, to help get rid of some telemarketers, just record those 3 tones that the operator makes when you dial a disconnected number and put them on your answering machine before your message, or play them when you answer the phone. If it's a telemarketer computer dialing, it will hear those tones and think it has reached a disconnected number and drop you from the list, or at least flag your number as invalid or something. I've heard that's all those "tele-zapper" things they advertise on TV are anyway. Don't know if it really works, but would be fun to try. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "William H.
