I'd keep the dark gray on the back but use a ligther gray whereever theres
text - call it a two tone monochrome scheme.
In my experience, a lighter area where youre supposed to read focuses the
eyeball on the content.

I like the white for the text. I find it readable. I would suggest a
different colour like khaki or olive green for example for the title text in
the Header and maybe also for the titles in the navigation bar on the side.
Maybe give those areas a slightly different background colour as well, to
lend variety and an impression of depth.
