Well I am obviously no expert on the matter. It could very well be that the
stockpiles they originally have would have deteriorated and are no longer
useful. However there are reports showing that they were able to acquire
mobile labs that they could use to continue to produce new weapon systems
with. Also some things can be frozen and paced in suspension until needed,
so there is always that fear. Recently the Israelis were able to convince
one of Sadaams body guard to defect. He has been saying that there are
multiple storage and production sites, but that they are highly secret and
in many cases far underground.

Another thing that bothers me is that there are a large group of scientists
that are "guests" of Sadaam at one of his palaces. Also there are reports
of scientists receiving fake death certificates for their loved ones.

I guess I see it like this. He has broken every resolution along the way.
Either we admit that the UN idea doesn't work (which I would love to see
come true) or the UN has to put it's money (and it's members soldiers) where
it's mouth is and enforce its "decrees".

Tim,

I recall reading an interview with Scott Ritter in which he talked about the
biological/chemical weapons facilities that Iraq had. He mentioned that the
types of things they were then capable of creating were not easily preserved
and only had a shelf-life of only a couple years.

Any thoughts on how that plays into all of this? Iraq may very well _have_
had weapons, but there's a fair chance that they don't even exist anymore
through no action or inaction on Saddam's part. That could put the evidence
presented today in a different light.
