My Dad's had two heart attacks. The first one was mild -- didn't show up
until they did a radiation dye test. The second one was moderate -- sounds
like it's much like the one Ben just experienced -- and had a very similar
treatment.

I didn't worry about him, really, when I heard. After all, my Dad's just
too damn stubborn to die!

After he was recouping in the hospital after the second one, I heard
something that /did/ scare me about it. He had been airlifted to a heart
hospital (Ft. Sanders in Knoxville, TN) from Marymount here in London. It
turns out that when he went to the emergency room in London, the first
couple of people didn't know if they had a cardiac unit, and then they
couldn't find out if anyone was even on duty (since it was a Saturday).

"I'm sorry, the doctor's not in right now. Could you have your heart
attack, say, Monday 9am?"

I've had one bad experience with this hospital as well. So has my Mom. So
far, the only person in my family treated with speed and skill was my sister
Jenny -- who just needed 1 stitch.

People, find out what hospitals are good and which suck. The life you save
might be your own.

: Michael;
:
: Please let Nelda know that Ben is in my thoughts and prayers.
:
: My father had a heart attack (actually, two heart attacks and a
: stroke) last
: year around this time. It is a scary ordeal, and somewhat terrifing for
: everyone involved.
:
: At the same time, the technology used in these procedures is very advanced
: and recovery is possible. My dad is back on the road to good
: health, having
: now joined a gym and modified his diet to support continued good health.

:
: This was sent to me this morning from Ben Bravers wife:
:
:
: Hello Michael,
:
: Ben wanted me to let you and the list know that he is in the hospital. He
: suffered a heart attack yesterday morning. He is looking much
: better and I
: am going to go visit him this morning. He is in the CPU (ironic huh?). It
: is the Cardio Pulmonary Unit. They are still keeping an eye on his
: progress. They performed an angioplasty procedure and put and
: "stent" in an
: artery on the left side of his heart. He is happy to be alive and will be
: at Mt. Diablo Hospital for about 3 days. He was in good spirits the whole
: time and telling puns to the nurses. I told him to stop or they would put
: him out in the hall.
:
: I wanted to let you and all the community list know how touched
: he was when
: people were wondering where he was the last few months when he
: was so busy.
: All of your concern really humbled him (briefly) and made him think about
: how special you all are to him.
:
: I will keep in touch.
:
: Thanks,
: Nelda
