Raymond - I am on my second cartridge after making 130 prints (2 60-count packs of photo paper + the 10 sheets that came with the camera). The image quality held up very well throughout - no wasted paper. The printer uses a single HP 57 print cartridge that sells for about $40 a unit. Here's my cost breakdown - - $20 for 60 pieces of premium photo paper x 2 - $40 for print cartridge About $80 materials for 130 prints == about $0.61 cents a print. This might not compete with regular photo development, but the cost can be reduced further with bulk purchasing. The cost of print cartridges goes down to $31 when purchased in dual packs, and I bet there are ways to buy 10 packs for even less per unit. The cost of paper is probably negotiable, and it is probably worth it to test out other brands as well. But this is not bad a bad deal for someone who only occasionally prints out photos. Also, if you often take a lot of throw away shots, this could save money over developing entire rolls of pictures to get the one you really want. Mike, I'd love to hear from you again a while after using the printer. Specifically, about how many prints do you get per toner cartridge. ======================================================================= Raymond Camden, ColdFusion Jedi Master for Mindseye, Inc Member of Team Macromedia Email : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Blog : www.camdenfamily.com/morpheus/blog Yahoo IM : morpheus "My ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is." - Yoda -----Original Message----- From: Haggerty, Mike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 22, 2003 8:54 AM To: CF-Community Subject: Everybody make it through okay? In other news, I went to Staples to buy flashlights and came across a great deal on a photo printer. HP Photosmart 4x6 printer, refurbished, $49 bucks. $49 is about the cost of the toner cartridge and the premium glossy paper the printer comes with - good deal. The thing is about the size of a small toaster and is available on Staples Web site at this price as well. I bought one and was surprised both at the quality of the photos and the fact that getting it running under Linux took about 1 minute. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
