Erika,
I have a 2 year old male German Shepard named Max who was big into poop
eating. Since going on raw he has stopped altogether. From what I can
gather, the food being fed to him was coming out pretty much as it went in,
still smelling like food (not to us, but to the dogs), but not actually very
digestable. You can tell this by the huge size of the doggie poops. Now,
since on raw max eats about 2 pounds a day of meat and bones, and his poops
are just a little bigger than my cats. Which means of course that his body
is using almost all of what he eats. It is truly amazing. (of course
thinking the size of my dogs poop as amazing may get me labeled as some sort
of freak, but what the hell).

>>because everytime I bent over to try and clean it off the dog bed cover I
almost puked

I know what you mean, that is some nasty stuff.

As a side note, Max has started burying his poops. I had never seen that
behavior from him before.

Several nights ago, Charlie puked just as we were settling down to
sleep. Luckily it was all over her dog bed and I carefully cleaned her
off her front paws and put the dog bed in the tub to clean most of it
off before washing it ...

The thing was it smelled EXACTLY like dog poop. Even looked like dog
poop, except it was a great big runny disgusting mess, and even as I
type this I am gagging. So guess what? IT WAS DOG POOP!!!!!!!

It took me literally a half hour to clean everything up and get the
cover in the wash, because everytime I bent over to try and clean it off
the dog bed cover I almost puked. I had to run out of the room, take
deep breaths, then hold my breath, run back in and clean it up.

The whole time poor Charlie is in this little ball looking up at me with
such a sad lok on her face. You just wanted to scoop her up and cuddle
her.

Anyway, it was revolting to say the least. It's never happened before
and hasn't happened since and she is perfectly fine. Her poopies are
firm, nothing new fed ... I think she just felt like eating a fresh poop
that night out in the yard. Now I know that greys and other dogs just
like to eat poop every now and then.

And Phil does keep the yard picked up, so it was a freshie. <shudders>

This is a great link!!! I've got some peeps asking about raw bones and
what kinds and where to find them, so I'm passing this along if you
don't mind :D

Oh, and John ... We do love our pets :D They are our kids, and treated
as such most of the time. :)
