The new ones are a lot quieter than the old ones.  When the motor goes, as what happened to my original CPAP TWICE, they get very noisy before they stop.  They aren't all that noisy.  It's not noticeable behind most doors, even if the mask is off.  An air purifier, air conditioner, furnace or humidifier will make more noise at a medium/high setting.
