These leaps in price are caused by the production method. Basically LCD
screens are made in large plates and then cut to the right size. So a plate
from which you could cut 4 17" screens, can only be used to cut 3 (or even
2) 18" screens. That makes them much more expensive.
Also, with increasing size it becomes much more difficult to control the
number of defects.
