I bound the lockpick like that, and any other skill as needed. Like the sliver mine in the first camp, I could get mad cash from there right away. That and a quick run to that camp at the lowest south west for an AK or mac11 grab with my new guys(RUN and knife that dude, heh) and I could jump to about the midway point and be fine. Of course, I made myself go through all the missions just because I loved the game as a whole SO much.
Laser weapons, the nuke signs at night for radioactive, etc, etc. Man, they just nailed all the parts on that one. Fallout tried really hard and they almost got it, but it will always be compared in the contect of wasteland rather than itself.
