Okay, backing up. What exactly do you want to do and what are your givens?

What I understand so far:
1. The PDF is on the server.
2. The path on the server to the file is "C:\pdf\out\filename.pdf"
3. The person viewing the PDF will be on a remote client.

Unknowns:
Will the person opening the file be anywhere on the Internet, or just on
your LAN?
If the person is on your LAN, will they always have that drive mapped?
Is the PDF in question in the web root tree on your server or is it outside
of it?
