Gel,

I'm curious. How come you didn't go with Serial ATA instead of IDE?

I highly recommend this machine:

Although I would recommend the 9600XT instead of that sucky NVidia card.
But that's just me ;-)
Would save you 16 bucks too. You could save even more by going with the
3200 instead of the 3400 processor.
Difference in performance isn't that much for the US$168.00 price
difference.

This gives you the latest AMD 64 Bit processor, and the peace of mind
that the system works out the box and always thereafter, and if it
doesn't you have a tech support number to call and complain *chuckle*.

Really, you can't go wrong with an Alienware. If you can afford it, I
would say go this route.
With 2 grand to plop down you aren't exactly on a 'budget' for a fast PC
that may require you to save some bucks.
And no matter how well you plan, it is usually more stress to build your
own ;-)

My current config is :

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8T800 NEO
512MB PC3200 DDR400 RAM.
Connect3D Radeon 9600 256MB (stock).
LiteOn CD-RW,
2 IDE hard disks,
1 external 120GB maxtor onetouch 7200RPM USB2.0
