Really too small for me.  I need something that I can eventually add a
second video card/monitor too, also I end up doing all kinds of stupid
things like adding midi card, wireless networking, and so on.

So far Dell seems to be most likely to fit the budget, and happen quickly.

Subject: RE: opinions?

How about a Shuttle XPC small form factor.
I priced a package including 1 gig of memory, a P-4 3.02 ghz, 120 gb SATA
HD, DVD+_R, ATI RADEON 9600 XT 256MB video card and an Audigy 2 ZS sound
card for under 1300. I'm assuming that you don't need a monitor or
keyboard/mouse. It also doesn't include an OS.

Here's the Shuttle box:

The reviews I've seen match this configuration quite well against larger
machines like Dell, HP or Gateway boxes that cost considerably more. The
chief drawback is that it has very limited expandability (1 pci slot and 1
AGP slot), but on the plus side it has on-board gigabit networking,
firewire, usb 2 and SPDIF In/Out.

Hth,

Larry
