Well, maybe it's not a nice time to say it but -- there simply are NO exceptions the laws (rules, whatever you call them) of economics -- and that includes the web (also includes medicine, law, government and everything else). No exceptions -- None. What does that mean? It means that "water will always seek it proper level" and that will be determined by how well anything satisfies the self-interest that causes it's existence. To the degree that the web contributes to our self-interest (which it will, ultimately) it will prosper and thrive -- but it won't do it on hype -- only on results. That's all that we're seeing now is -- a more objective assessment of what results the web can REALLY return. Once we're more certain of what results it REALLY can deliver -- it will continue to grow -- at the fastest rate that can REALLY produce those results. With that said -- we should be optimistic -- and also advise everyone we bump into to BUY on the web. About the "ads" mentioned here -- you better be damn glad they exist -- because they are delivering real results (revenues) and in lieu of any BETTER business model that allows folks to make money (like invading your privacy to sell you stuff) -- they are causing the web to grow. Results, if you missed my previous drift -- means money, revenues, earnings, etc. If no one is making any of that -- no one hires the firm you work for -- and they have no money to pay YOU -- so you have no job -- or no work if you're independent. So, you better be damn glad for those annoying ads, unless you've got some better idea of how someone can make money that they can then give that money to you. If you do have a better idea -- we need it -- so lets hear it. We're just looking at the "law of reality" here, folks (yes, I invented that term :-) ).
