Jim,

I can bring up a foo.html or foo.txt, the authentication dialog pops up
as soon as I call a foo.cfm

What should the permissions be for the IUSR_ account on directories
containing .CFM templates?

In Explorer I have given it RX on directories and files.
In IIS console, under directory properties the permissions are set as
Read, Log Access, Execute (Including Script). Under Directory Security
ALLOW ANONYMOUS is checked.

I am not quite clear on what you mean when you say check permissions on
cold fusion?

Thanks,
Ron.

To seperate out application issues try writing out a file called foo.txt
and
calling it from a web page.
This will help to sort out where the NTFS permissions are getting hung
up.
If you can access foo.txt without an issue, check permissions on cold
fusion
and the like, it you have problems accessing foo.txt, look at the IIS
config
and its folders.

Subject: [KCFusion] CF5 Installation problems

Hello,

I have just completed a clean install of CF5, now any attempt to access
existing applications results in the browser popping up a dialog box
asking for the NT username and password, it is as though anonymous
access is disabled (it is not)
The CF app server is not running as localsystem but as a fairly
privileged user so it can access remote data, that account also has
access to the directories where the templates are stored...

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks,
Ron.
