Dear Paul, Jim, Roy,

Thanks for looking at this name again. I too agree that Jim's wording of the 
partial pressure description is an improvement. So we now have:
fugacity_of_carbon_dioxide_in_sea_water (Canonical units: Pa)
'The fugacity is the measured pressure (or partial pressure) of a real gas 
corrected for the intermolecular forces of that gas, which allows that 
corrected quantity to be treated like the pressure of an ideal gas in the ideal 
gas equation PV = nRT. The partial pressure of a dissolved gas in sea water is 
the partial pressure in air with which it would be in equilibrium. The partial 
pressure of a gaseous constituent of air is the pressure that it would exert if 
all other gaseous constituents were removed, assuming the volume, the 
temperature, and its number of moles remain unchanged. The chemical formula for 
carbon dioxide is CO2.'

This name is accepted for publication in the standard name table and will be 
added in the 15th October update.

I agree with Roy's comment that the definitions of existing partial pressure 
names should also be updated with the improved text. This will affect the 
following 12 names:
partial_pressure_of_carbon_dioxide_in_sea_water;
partial_pressure_of_methane_in_sea_water;
surface_carbon_dioxide_abiotic_analogue_partial_pressure_difference_between_sea_water_and_air;
surface_carbon_dioxide_natural_analogue_partial_pressure_difference_between_sea_water_and_air;
surface_carbon_dioxide_partial_pressure_difference_between_air_and_sea_water;
surface_carbon_dioxide_partial_pressure_difference_between_sea_water_and_air;
surface_molecular_oxygen_partial_pressure_difference_between_sea_water_and_air;
surface_partial_pressure_of_carbon_dioxide_abiotic_analogue_in_sea_water;
surface_partial_pressure_of_carbon_dioxide_in_air;
surface_partial_pressure_of_carbon_dioxide_in_sea_water;
surface_partial_pressure_of_carbon_dioxide_natural_analogue_in_sea_water;
water_vapor_partial_pressure_in_air.

These definitions will also be updated on 15th October.

Dear All,

I'm happy with James's updated sentence. It says the same thing but is clearer. 
Once the fCO2 name has been added we could consider using it to upgrade other 
partial pressure definitions.

I think the last sentence is there to conform to a definition pattern that 
includes some less familiar substances. I'm equally happy with it or without it.

I would suggest to replace the 3rd sentence

with the following:

would exert if all other gaseous constituents were removed, assuming the

The description would then become as follows:
