Hi again, I have seen many examples of model output over the years where salinities have been tagged with the units of 'PSU' but I know for a fact that the source data used have been a mixture of PSS-78 and historical data that strictly speaking should be given units of ppt.
I would counsel against adding a new Standard Name for labelling model output. Cheers, Roy. I have now retired but will continue to be active through an Emeritus Fellowship using this e-mail address. ________________________________ From: CF-metadata <cf-metadata-boun...@cgd.ucar.edu> on behalf of Andrew Barna <aba...@ucsd.edu> Sent: 10 September 2019 18:38 To: Cathy Smith <cathy.sm...@noaa.gov> Cc: CF Metadata List <cf-metadata@cgd.ucar.edu> Subject: Re: [CF-metadata] new variable name request Hi Cathy, The “P” of PSU is “Practical” so it's almost certain to be PSS-78, it sounds like we should get “sea_water_practical_salinity_at_sea_floor” on the list. Let me know what the oceanographer says and we can get a name proposed. -Barna > On 2019-09-10, at 07:32, Cathy Smith <cathy.sm...@noaa.gov> wrote: > > Thanks. I didn't think to look.
