Hi John,

Sounds like something went wrong with the initial install. CF 8 does  
not require a reboot mid way.  Are you able to re-attempt removal of  
the original install or re-image the machine and start over?

Yes by default CF will run of port 8500 using the jrun webserver or  
you can hook it into IIS/Apache ect if you have this running.  I  
personally am running CF with IIS on my work machine.

To access the local install ( ie http://localhost/testPage.cfm ) the  
firewall can be left on but for a second PC to access Coldfusion  
those ports must be opened.
