I upgraded an nt 4 server to MP several years ago.
The issues I had with uptomp.exe were based on the
fact that i had installed service packs and the utility
was designed to work with an fresh install, I didn't
want to uninstall all of my service packs.
There are procedures that you can follow to manually
upgrade the server, which is what i ended up doing. If
you attempt this, it's important to attend to updating
the setup.log files, file crc value and all. The MS
procedures cover this all pretty well.
This article describes how to change Windows NT from
single processor support to multiprocessor support or
from multiprocessor support to single processor support.

Hope this helps,

Hi All,
For what it's worth, UPTOMP.EXE is an option but nine times out of ten (at
least for us) it leads to a screaming blue screen and the need to rebuild
anyway. Don't waste your time with it..
