The problem was that people have been asking questions in a way that
encourages people to be mean to them, and then people are mean to them. In
my opinion, neither should be happening. But the whole point is that people
shouldn't be afraid to ask something. You've come in on the tail end of
this discussion, but the thing that someone did that was really bad (the
thing that people are really being angry about today) was this: Someone
sent a question to the list. Someone on the list wrote to that person's
boss that the developer who asked the question was obviously incompetent
and that the boss should hire the sender of the message as the developer's
replacement.
Frankly, there's a good reason that anyone who resorts to that is looking
for a job.
