The problem with any sort of Hosting list is Bias. The fact is you don't
really know the person posting the response. Unscrupulous hosts can take
steps to flood the system with praise. Then a customer with an axe to grind
can really rip an otherwise excellent host.

I have had to fire several customers over the years because they were
unreasonable in their demands, expectations or were just not nice folks. So
I am sure one of them given the chance would love to gore me in a review.
Yet does that mean I am a bad host or have unreliable service. Probably not.
These folks were bandwidth hogs, wrote poor code that was forever bogging
the server down and would do nothing to correct it or were hosting spam or
adult-material which isn't permitted. So all my other customers would
applaud such action for preserving and improving the service. Of course the
guy kicked off the service may do anything to try and get revenge, including
posting a bad review.

So then you read a report about how tech support sucks, no one answers
email, they are all idiots, don't know what they are doing, always down and
on and on and what do you think?

The best referral is word of mouth and the best way to find a host is to
give them a try. It is so simple to move a single domain these days, ask
around for who people like and then try out a new host and see how it works.

Cheers!

What the CF community needs is a single-source resource to list and rate
web hosting services, like CNET does
(http://webservices.cnet.com/cgi/useropinions.asp?cat=Web+Hosting), but
specific to CF hosting. After hearing positive comments about ABI
Hosting on this list a few months back, I checked them out and finally
took the plunge, moving a couple accounts there recently. They offer a
sweet package, but the outage they announced Saturday caused me some
concern. Support has lagged and the one guy who seemed to be holding
things together (one of the principals) collapsed due to exhaustion and
is out of the picture for weeks. Kinda makes me leary about moving
forward with them.

If there was a site where we could fill in a survey and rate things like
support issues, compare prices, and enter feedback, that would be great.
Or maybe one already exists and I just missed it?
