I know there was a change in of one the MX updaters to allow CFCs, which in the initial release of MX had to be lower case, be mixed case, if desired. Under the hood, CF used to convert the name to all lower case, which obviously broke *nix environments, which are case sensitive. I'm not really sure if the same change was applied to custom tags, though if you see it working, perhaps it was.
